How to Help Zoos and Aquariums During and Post Pandemic
Many businesses have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic—including many zoos and aquariums across the country. While visitors are not allowed into the zoos and aquariums, the many species of animals cared for in these facilities still rely on keepers, biologists, and staff members. Zebra Pen is a proud partner of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction program. AZA SAFE combines the power of zoo and aquarium visitors with the resources and collective expertise of AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums and partners to save animals from extinction. While some zoos and aquariums are closed temporarily, here are some great ways to support their work and make a difference during the pandemic.
1. Make a Donation
Making a small donation to AZA or AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums will not only help support zoo and aquarium annual operations to feed and care for animals but can also help protect endangered species and their habitats, and support conservation and educational initiatives. Donate to AZA or find your local AZA-accredited zoo or aquarium.
2. Become a Zoo or Aquarium Member
Many AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums offer membership programs with several different plans designed to fit you and your family. While these memberships do come at a cost, it is a great way to support zoos and aquariums while they are temporarily closed. Your dues may also help conservation efforts around the world while providing perks that may include free admission, parking, and discounts on food and souvenirs. Paying for a membership now will help zoos, aquariums, and wildlife when they need it most.

3. Virtual Visits
Show your support for zoos and aquariums in other ways during this time, like by tuning in and learning together. Many AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums have developed educational and fun virtual activities. These activities include live streaming of animals in their exhibits, live interviews with keepers and biologists, coloring pages, and more. Check out AZA’s Videos and Activities page to find dozens of online events and educational resources. Engaging online is a great way to learn more about your favorite animals, and zoos and aquariums around the world. Many businesses need support during these times. Without the normal flow of visitors, zoos and aquariums are struggling for funds. Help us support their work during this time.
